Get to know your mental healthcare providers

Meet our team of professional counselors & therapists

Hello! I’m Trisha Swinton

Licensed Therapist

In working with individuals, I assist my clients to determine underlying fears, gaining insight into the cause of the fear and anxiety, and beginning the healing process. I treat victims who have been abused by empowering them and helping them find their inner strength to cope in a healthy way.  I work with adults, adolescents, children and families. I also work with people who are suffering from depression, anxiety, relationship issues, eating disorders, and victims of abuse.

I currently work Tuesday through Thursday. I am offering in person sessions as well as telehealth.

My previous professional experience includes working for a nonprofit agency where I provided mental health assessments and services to children with special needs ages three to five. I also provided special education services and evaluated children’s cognitive skills. Prior to this, I worked as a home based therapist providing intensive counseling to children and families in crisis, such as child abuse and neglect, parent mental illness, and separation from caregivers.

I work as an eclectic therapist, using client centered therapy and a family systems approach. I join the family working as a team player to provide a nonjudgmental, empathetic approach to counseling. My belief is that if one person in the system makes a positive change, the entire system will positively change as well.

It is my hope that my clients and I will establish a positive rapport, working together to make positive changes for them to live a fulfilling, more satisfying life.

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist. I received my Master’s Degree from Phillips Graduate Institute, Chatsworth, CA. I work with families, couples and individuals.

My previous work experiences include working as a community mental health therapist, working with families and children in crisis and helping Seniors with serious mental illness (SMI).

My therapeutic method involves a person-centered approach, which empowers the client to reach their potential through self-awareness, acceptance, and openness. As a therapist my role is to assist clients in recognizing options, problem-solving, developing healthy relationships and encouraging them to discover and build on their personal strengths. Some additional theories I utilize in therapy include Family systems therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Gottman’s couple therapy.

When working with couples and families I believe the relationship is the client.

My therapeutic approach is results-driven and action-oriented, focused on leveraging an understanding of your past to develop a clear, actionable plan for your present and future. I aim to guide you toward re-establishing a connection with your authentic self, fostering renewed self-worth and a positive self-image. Together, we will work to help you recover from trauma and addiction, cultivating the healthy relationships and essential life skills you need to grow into your best self.

I am committed to helping you understand how to take action in order to heal and grow,
providing a framework you can apply long after treatment.

I received a BA in music performance from Alma College, an MA in special education from the University of Colorado Denver, and an MA in clinical mental health from Adams State University.

Outside of my practice, I enjoy writing and performing music, going to concerts, traveling, and spending quality time with my friends and family.

I want to help clients understand their emotions and unconscious patterns of behavior. By talking through these emotions and behaviors, you can come to know yourself better and make better decisions for yourself.

I primarily use cognitive behavioral therapy to address unhealthy thoughts and behaviors. I also believe that in order to make meaning of your present beliefs and patterns we must examine and understand your past.

I strive to empower my clients by teaching coping skills to help you deal with the stressors you may face in day to day life. I believe that your thoughts, and attitudes can impact your feelings and actions. If you are looking for a safe and non-judgmental space to learn more about yourself and explore reoccurring patterns, I’m here to help!

Starting therapy takes a lot of courage—and if you’re even considering it, I already see that bravery in you. I know that not everyone has had a positive experience with therapy, and I believe finding the right fit matters. My goal is to meet you exactly where you are, without judgment, and to walk alongside you on your healing journey with honesty, warmth, and respect.

I show up as a real human in the therapy room—someone who’s deeply curious about your story and who believes that meaningful change comes from feeling truly seen and supported. I believe you are the expert on your life, and I’m here to help you understand patterns, explore emotions, and build tools that work for you.

I specialize in working with adolescents and families, particularly in navigating trauma, sexual behavior concerns, and relationship challenges. I’ve spent the last several years working in intensive in-home settings, using evidence-based approaches like MST-PSB, CBT, TF-CBT, and relational models including attachment therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I’m also growing my work with couples and individuals looking to deepen connections, improve communication, and better understand themselves in relationships.

My credentials include a Bachelor’s in Human Development & Family Studies from The University of Utah, & a Masters of Social Work from the University of Denver. My niche includes helping children + youth with trauma (medical, parental substance use, abuse, neglect, attachment ruptures) & grief. I’ve spent over a decade working & serving in diverse spaces with adolescents & have loved every minute of it!

My therapeutic lens recognizes the importance of the individual, the therapeutic relationship, attachment, neuroscience, involving & supporting caregivers / family systems, play & expressive therapy, & capitalizing on the mind-body connection. Interventions I use often include aspects of Synergetic Play Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Art/Expressive/Sand tray therapy, Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems, & psychoeducation.

I fill my cup out of session by dabbling in all sorts of outdoor activities, hanging with my elderly dogs, reading, & local outings. But most of all laughing & making memories with the people that I love!

My clients often tell me they appreciate my down-to-earth style & my ability to mix serious insight with a well-timed dose of humor. I focus on positive solutions and help you tap into your existing strengths to navigate unfamiliar challenges. I work with individuals, couples and families… clients who are ready to roll up their sleeves and put in the work, whether that means managing anxiety, improving communication in relationships, or simply figuring out what’s next.

I work with challenging life transitions, grief and loss, short and long term trauma, aging issues, relationship issues, divorce, healing past issues and getting “unstuck,” and making difficult life decisions.

My therapy style utilizes a variety of treatment styles emphasizing practical systems and focusing on goals and utilizing personal strengths within a whole-picture, comprehensive, systems approach. I gravitate to Eclectic/Mixed Methods approach, Family Systems,  Humanistic approaches, SFBT and Narrative, CBT-F, Gottman and EFT Couples work, and Psychoeducation.

I received my MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Argosy University – Denver and my BA in Psychology is from Texas A&M with minors in Sociology and Educational Psychology.

My work centers on helping clients become authors of their own stories rather than captive characters in scripts written by others. Drawing from ACT, Parts Work, Emotion-Focused Therapy, & Jungian depth psychology, I guide people first toward psychological flexibility, then deeper toward questions of purpose & authentic self-expression.

Before counseling, I spent years in executive coaching & corporate strategy at Bain & Company, Optum, & Fox Entertainment. That experience taught me how closed systems affect autonomy & agency. I’ve also built Goodpain Company, a storytelling platform exploring what it means to live undivided lives.

Caregiving for my daughter with significant special needs over 15 years has given me direct experience with grief work, recovery processes, & community building. I understand the particular isolation caregivers face & the vital need for genuine support. I understand both the isolation of caregiving & the power of genuine support networks.

When not in session, I build fine furniture, take photographs, & write screenplays. I live in Colorado with my wife Tiffany & our three daughters.
